Picomove Interferometer

Teem Photonics has developed and offers a new line of
compact, stable and high performance interferometers for the
measurement of picometer scale displacements and vibrations.

The PicoMove interferometers from Teem Photonics are based on the integration of a monolithic ioNext chip in a high-grade casing, which results in ultra-low noise vibration measurements.

The eye-safe 1.55µm operating wavelength provides compatibility with commercial telecom laser sources.

The sensor design also handles visible wavelengths to ease the optical beam alignment. Teem proposes packaging options with low thermal expansion material and for UHV environment. Electrical parts of the measurement system (laser source, detectors) are remote through reliable fiber pigtailing.

Principle

  • The laser signal (from the input fiber) is split into two arms: a reference arm with lithography-defined, constant length, and a free-space measurement arm where light is back-reflected on a moving target.

  • The length of this latter arm varies with the target position. The two arms are them recombined on-chip.

  • Two fibered outputs deliver inteference signals in quadrature, as well as two power reference signals, to enable vectorial displacement computation.
