Optical mode converter

An optical mode converter is an adaptation optical circuit which optimizes the coupling efficiency between two optical devices with different guided mode dimensions. The versatility and the flexibility of the ion-exchange process permit to easily customize the shape, the burying depth and the dimensions of the manufactured waveguides. Teem's Photonics Integrated Circuits Platform is well adapted to the realization of optical mode converters.

High index contrast PICs technologies based on InP or SOI substrates present high optical confinement and high integration level for the realization of very compact devices. However, these components suffer from low optical coupling effiency with standard single mode fibers. To solve that issue, Teem has specially developped a tapered waveguides technology on glass wafer to manufacture compact and efficient mode converters dedicated to InP-based components and PM fibers. Mode converters can obviously be combined with Teem's other available PICs on a same chip. |
